Dear Students;
These are the most frequently asked questions about the final project.

Q1. While the queue types are assigned to nodes in the graph of network, in NS they should be implemented on links. What should we do?
A1. In the triangle in the graph assign the queue of each node to the opposite link. For example the queue of R2 which is RED will be implemented on the link between R1 and R3 and so on.

Q2. Should the graphs be drawn for all the packets of the network or for each source respectively?
A2. The aggregate graphs are required and you should measure delay and packet loss for the entire network.

Q3. What is VBR?
A3. You can use exponential bit rate traffic source as a VBR source.

Q4. Are links Duplex?
A4. Yes, All links are Duplex

Q5. Will the final project follow the same policy as midterm?
A4. Yes, so be very careful about your source code, document and graphs!

Q5. What should be handed in and how?
A5. You should hand in the Tcl source code and any other script you have used to process the traces along with a PDF (no other format is acceptable) documents (at most 5 pages) containing all your graphs and brief description of the simulation process. All these should be put in a directory named as your student number. Finally the directory should be zipped and sent to The subject of the email should be your student number. If you are doing the project as a group put the name and student number of your colleague along with yours on the first page of the pdf document.

Q7. What tool should be used to draw the graphs?
A7. Any tool you prefer?

Q8. Should the simulation be performed on Linux?
A8. No it does not have to be done in Linux.

Q9. I can't use the http traffic source. What should I do?
A9. If you are unable to utlize the http traffic source you can do your simulation with exponential traffic source instead of http. 10% extra credit is considered for those who can use http.

Q10. Will the deadline be extended?
A10, No, since the grades have to be passed to the department in a very short time there will be no extention.

Mohammad H. Falaki.

In the Name of the Dearest

Dear Students,

Midterm project grades can be found on the grades section.

Please note that according to the grading policy, single member teams have received a 20% extra point, the case is the same for the people who have implemented IPC. A 10% penalty is calculated for late submissions. Finally, the copied projects are catagorized in groups and the grades are devided by the number of the people in the group (total number of people who has copied the code from each other).

If you see any problems in the grades, please feel free to email me about the case; but before that, please note that plagiarism and copies are not tolerated by any means, though cooperation and brainstorming is highly appriciated. Be careful that such actions, if detected, will lead into more catastrofic results in final project grades, up to and including losing all your grade!

Sincere regards,
Mahdi Kefayati
