I'll be at CE on Saturday morning, 8:00 am. The sooner you come, the sooner you can deliver your project.

There will be a paper, on which you write your names (indicating your turn).

PS: Mr. Mokhtarian has announced 3rd assignment grades. He said objection is penalty-free.

  1386-04-24 July 15, 2007 04:15 PM
The final exam papers are corrected. You can find the grades in the [Grades] section.
Note: All questions are corrected by Dr. Jalili. I'm not in charge of objections.

Some students asked me about the budget for final exam. I, in turn, asked Dr. Jalili. Here's his reply:

Everybody who has been in the class knows. Please reply them that:
1- It has been declared in the class.
2- The whole class materials including what me and you and Mr. Mokhtarian taught.

  1386-03-17 June 07, 2007 09:39 PM
Plz read the "ProjectDeliveryGuide_v1.pdf" in the [Resources] section ASAP.

  1386-03-17 June 07, 2007 05:25 PM
Assignment 4 grades are ready. It took me whole DAYS to correct, but hopefully, it's finished. I know that this set of assignment was much more than any other sets; but, believe me or not, designing questions and correcting answers take much more time than merely answering to them. My only goal was that you LEARN much more that you are TAUGHT, even at the cost of DAYS of trouble for myself!

I hear you say "what about our grades?" OK. I understant that you need higher grades, and in the current situation, assignment 4 grades are not much interesting. I will use the following formula to enhance your grades:

Then, your grade is calculated from a total of 150. Here's an example:

If you obtained 300 out of 370 (total), your new
grade will be 200 out of 150. This means +50 bonus!

Objection: As you see, this time we don't have an objection budget. That's because of the high bonus reserved for this assignment. Objection rules are still in place!

NB: For correcting questions 6 & 7 (AES), I wrote a C# program. Although the program seemed quite promising, I cannot make sure if it really works correctly. I uploaded this program in the [Resources] section. If your objection is about questions 6 or 7, please use this program to verify your answer first.

Assignment #3 grades: As I said before, I'm not in charge of that assignment. I ask Mr. Mokhtarian to announce the grades for this assignment ASAP. I also suggest that YOU ask HIM to do this.

  1386-03-13 June 03, 2007 07:26 AM
New slides were added to [Resources] section, under [Slides] folder.

  1386-03-07 May 28, 2007 11:43 AM
If you have any problem in Network Security...

Then you are welcome to this extra class! This time, it's your turn to speak, and mine to listen ;)

Time: Tuesday, 8/3/86; 12:00-13:30
Place: Khodro 7

  1386-02-24 May 14, 2007 07:44 PM
I uploaded the grades-after-objection to the [Grades] section of the CE442
course page. Plz see your final grade, and contact me in case of errors.

Here's an statistics:

Faghih: +0.5
Sahrayi: +0.75
Ja'fari: +1
Akhoondi: +1
Helmi: +2
Safi: +3.25

The last two changes was due to me, not seeing the answers. It wasn't due
to mistaken paper correction. I came to the result that I have a good job
correcting all the 40-or-so papers in one day ;)

  1386-02-23 May 13, 2007 07:42 AM
Today (Sunday, 23/2/86) you can see your midterm exam papers, and file objections (if any!)

Time: 13:00-14:00
Place: Dr. Jalili's Office

PS: Remember the recitation class! Samsung's motto applies here: "Everyone's invited!"

  1386-02-19 May 09, 2007 08:06 PM
Assignment 4 is in the [Assignments] section. This time, I'm in charge, and the deadline won't be postponed!

A note: In this week's recitation class, I'm going to give the answers for ur midterm exam. Then, it's objection season! Plz note that, as always, there will be a penalty for wrong objections. So, if you wanna object, u must know the correct answer. I strongly recommend everyone to take part in next week's recitation class. (Sunday, 1386/2/23, Aleft 17, 12:00-13:00)

  1386-02-17 May 07, 2007 08:46 PM
I finished correcting your exam papers, and uploaded the grades to the [Grades] section.

It was so dissatisfying! The top scorer obtained 16.75 out of 20.

Plz wait till I tell u how/when/where to object. I must first solve the questions for u, which probably takes place in the recitation class, this Sunday.

  1386-02-14 May 04, 2007 05:27 PM
Dear students!
Due to a large number of questions mailed to me (about the midterm exam), I prefered to post my clues about it, once and forever:

I do not know anything about the aforementioned exam. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • The chapters you should read.
  • The knowledge you should have.
  • The type of questions.
  • The complexity of the exam.
  • The time and place of the exam.
  • ...

Please do not ask me such questions. Contact Dr. Jalili if you really want to know, as he is the one in charge.

  1386-02-12 May 02, 2007 08:37 AM
The deadline of assignment 3 is postponed until Friday 21st of Ordibehesht.

  1386-02-11 May 01, 2007 08:12 AM
Although I'm not aware of the content of your exam, it's helpful to mention a couple of things:

1) A scientific calculator may help you during the course of exam. It's definitely not necessary to have one; but it will lessen your response time, as well as post-exam headaches ;)

2) You'd better have a pencil & an eraser rather than a pen! The space allotted for answers might be limited.

  1386-02-09 April 29, 2007 10:55 AM
An article on the math background of the Birthday Paradox/Attack was uploaded to the [Resources] section.

Understanding the Birthday Paradox/Attack is crucial to your next-week exam, and to the material that is going to be presented next week in the assignment-solution class.

  1386-02-05 April 25, 2007 07:03 PM
Assignment #2 grades were announced in the [Grades] section.

This time, I (Dousti) corrected all the assignments. So, any objection should be directed to me. A mark of 10 is reserved as objection budget, and wrong objections will result in a penalty as before.

  1386-02-04 April 24, 2007 11:28 AM
Slides of "Introduction to Number Theory" and "RSA" lecture are uploaded to Resources section.

  1386-02-04 April 24, 2007 10:44 AM

  1386-02-02 April 22, 2007 05:02 PM
This Tuesday (4/2/86), the NetSec class will be held on 12:0-13:30 (khodro 7). In other words, the 9:0-10:30 class is SHIFTED +3 hours ;)

  1386-02-02 April 22, 2007 08:08 AM

  1386-02-01 April 21, 2007 02:20 AM
The deadline for sending proposals is expired!

New proposals are fined, based on the following formula:

where DAYS is the number of days after "farvardin 31" (proposal deadline).

Current Status:
Firewall: 0 groups
HIDS: 3 groups
Vulnerability Scanning Tool: 5 groups
Certificate Issuing Tool: 6 groups
Secure SMS: 6 groups

I will soon upload all of the proposals, so that you can see your friends' ideas, too.

  1386-02-01 April 21, 2007 02:03 AM
The "Vulnerability Scanning Tool" project has reached the 5-group limitation. No more proposals are accepted!

  1386-01-30 April 19, 2007 10:49 PM
The "Certificate Issuing Tool" project has reached the 5-group limitation. No more proposals are accepted!

  1386-01-29 April 18, 2007 08:44 AM
A number of resources/hints for the final project:

Note: I will gradually update this list. You may also help me and your friends by sending me your links of good references.

  1386-01-26 April 15, 2007 12:44 PM
I tried several times to create a "good" XLS (Excel 2003) file out of my XLSX (Excel 2007) grade files, but the resulting worksheet was so "out of tune" I decided not to upload it. I'm very sorry, but I don't have Excel 2003 installed anymore!

Due to an increasing requests from students, I decided to upload an HTML-like worksheet, so that those who cannot (or do not want) to install Office 2007 can also view their grades!

Check the [Grades] section for more info!

  1386-01-26 April 15, 2007 05:22 AM
Assignment #1 grades (all groups) are uploaded.

  1386-01-21 April 10, 2007 08:48 AM
Due to the increasing student requests, next week's assignment-solution class (Sunday, 26/1/1386) is dedicated to describing projects. In order for you to have enough time considering the projects, no assignment was given this week.

Note 1: Please inform your friends about next week class.
Note 2: The class is held in Alef-17, 12:00-13:00.

  1386-01-19 April 08, 2007 08:00 AM
Grades of assignment 1, group 1, are uploaded. Objection budget will vanish for junk objections (not all unaccepted objections are junks).
Two obvious copies were given the mark 0 for now, but were forgiven for future assignments. Please note that the "cop" rule is strict and the whole assignments grades will be 0 in the case any copy is detected. Also beware that future assignments are corrected together.

  1385-12-21 March 12, 2007 12:43 PM
Group 2 grades announced in the [Grades] section!

Plz note:

  1. Each student who delivered his/her assignement is given an extra 10 points as "objection budget". Wrong objectins decreases your budget by 10, per QUESTIONS you object.
  2. Send your objections (if any!) to you TAs, as follows:

    • Group 1: Mokhtarian
    • Group 2: Dousti
    • Group 3: Alizadeh

  1385-12-20 March 11, 2007 10:26 PM

  1. Assignment #2 was uploaded to the [Assignments] section.

  2. Due to some inefficiencies of the "Delivery Guide," a 2nd version of DeliveryGuide.pdf was uploaded to the [Resources]

  3. Remember putting 'S'ecurity in your 7-sin ;)

  1385-12-15 March 06, 2007 10:02 AM
1) Please send your assignments to ce40442_AT_Y!. As e-mail delivery is very unreliable these days, you MAY also CC it to dousti_AT_ce and ce40442_AT_G!mail

2) Problem-solution classes will be held on Sundays, 12:0-13:0, ALEF 17.

  1385-12-11 March 02, 2007 10:40 PM

  1385-11-28 February 17, 2007 04:40 PM
If you want to study slides, you may obtain PDF versions from the previous terms' course pages:

One slide per page (Good for reading)
Two slides per page (Good for printing)

Plz note that I am not authorized to upload any slides without Dr. Jalili's prior permission. But as soon as he returns, I'll get the job done.

Many of you asked about assignments and projects. I must first consult Dr. Jalili for this, too. But to get a taste of how they are supposed to be, you may visit the aforementioned links.
