Academic
Background
- I am a MSc student of Computer Engineering
in Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran since Sep. 2001.
- I received my BSc degree of Computer
Engineering (from Sharif) in July 2001.
- This is a list of graduate courses I have taken (in
chronological order):
- Parallel Processing
- Quantum Computing
- Combinatorial Optimization
- Theory of Cryptography
- Advanced Algorithms (mostly focused on approximation
algorithms)
- Advanced Operating Systems
- Randomized Algorithms
- Computational Complexity
- Seminar on Quantum Computing
- Computational Geometry
- As my M.S. thesis I am working on Quantum
Secret Sharing. My supervisor is Dr.
Vahid Karimipour. Our main aim of this project is to devise QSS schemes
that realize general access structures.
- My BSc thesis title was 'Communication in Asymmetric
Channels'. My supervisor was Dr. Mohammad Ghodsi.
Research
Interests
Generally I am interested in theoretical aspects of computer
science especially I am interested in:
- Computational Complexity
- Quantum Computing
- Design and Analysis of Algorithms
- Cryptography
- Graph Theory
TA Experience
In recent two years I have been TA for following courses:
Work
Experience
- Since Sep. 2001 I am working in Network Security
Laboratory, Department of Computer Engineering, Sharif
University of Technology under supervision of Dr. Rasool Jalili. I am
a member of Telecommunication Softwares Team. We develop
softwares for wireless communication, by now we have
developed our own SMS(Short Message Service) server as a
basis of our future projects. Previously I was a C++
programmer in the Linux environment and currently I am
software designer. Our teams consists of 8 people.
- I was a member of PASS project from Nov. 1999 to June
2001. PASS is an abbreviation for Project Analysis and
Selection System. It is a decision support system that
permits managers to select a subset of available project
such that they can meet their limitations and maximize
the profit, simultaneously.
Main part of design had been done as a PhD thesis in McMaster University by Dr. Fereidoun Ghasemzadeh.
These are some of papers he has published during his work
on his PhD thesis, these papers are base of PASS:
[1] N.P. Archer and F. Ghasemzadeh, "Project
Portfolio Selection Techniques: A Review And Suggested
Integrated Approach", in Lowell D. Dye and James
S.Pennypacker (ed.) Project Portfolio Management:
Selecting and Prioritizing Projects for Competitive
Advantage, Center for Business Practices (October 1999).
[2] Fereidoun Ghasemzadeh and Norm Archer, "Project
Portfolio Selection Through Decision Support",
Decision Support Systems, 29 (2000), pp. 73-88.

"A Zero-One Model for Project Portfolio Selection
and Scheduling", Journal of the Operational Research
Society, 50 (1999), pp. 745-755.
The most challenging part of the project was finding
APPRoximation algorithms and heuristics to solve an
NP-complete problem([3]) that was heart of the software.
Our team had been consisted of 3 people. We used Borland
Delphi for implementing the project.
Hobbies and
Interests
- Reading books, specially novels, history and Persian
poetry.
- Reading newspapers, however currently all my favorite
newspapers are banned :(
- Strolling. The best way for refreshing my mind!

Research Index
As many other computer science students I think this is a
necessary link in my homepage. This is the best source for
finding CS papers.
lanl Archive
A good resource for Physics papers. I use it for finding Quantum
Computing papers.
Useful
cryptography links
You can find many useful links related to cryptography in Helger
Lipmaa's homepage.
Hafez
A very nice electronic version of "Divaane Hafez".
Murphy's
Laws
Take a look at Murphy's Laws. Many of them are really true.
