  • Abstract: Many remote authentication schemes have been proposed recently, each of which satisfies only some of the essential requirements including mutual authentication, user anonymity, and key agreement with forward secrecy. In this thesis, we first illustrate two security attacks against existing authentication schemes and present the enhanced schemes. Then, we propose a new symmetric cryptography based authentication and key agreement scheme using smart-cards, that efficiently fulfills all the essential requirements. In our scheme, anonymous tickets are used to provide user anonymity, and one-way nature of hash functions makes the established session keys forward-secure. Finally, we introduce an Improved User Identity Confidentiality (IUIC) mechanism which attempts to avoid the drawback of UMTS authentication and key agreement procedure in provision of user anonymity.

  • Title: Implementation of a Secure Certificate-Based Election

  • Advisor: Dr. Rasool Jalili

  • Abstract: An electronic voting (e-voting) system enables voters to perform voting over computer networks. It can be realized in a way that is more convenient, faster and cheaper than a conventional voting. The main goal of this thesis is design and implementation of a secure e-voting system, which utilizes digital certificates to register users, and RSA encryption to perform election. Our scheme involves three phases; registration phase, voting phases, and ticket counting phase. We make use of UML to design the system, and Microsoft Visual C++ .Net to implement it.
